Introduction
The Return of an Award-Winning Double Bill to the Stage
Asetelma neljälle tanssijalle is the breakthrough work of choreographer Tommi Kitti, with which he won the prestigious Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis in Paris in 2000.
Spiraali (Spiral) is a sensual duet about an intimate relationship. The piece critically examines the modern conception of humanity through the language of contemporary dance.
In this new staging, Spiraali will be performed for the first time with live music by Sampo Lassila and Ville Hukkinen.
The works are reimagined and produced by Raekallio Corp. The performances feature the four-member Doina Klezmer Orchestra.
The event is organized by Raekallio Corp.
Tommi Kitti
Tommi Kitti’s intimate and human-centred approach to dance, combined with his virtuosic and dynamic movement language, placed his works among the most distinctive in both Finnish and international contemporary dance at the start of the 2000s. His choreographic style and working methods have had a significant impact on many Finnish dance artists working today.
Kitti began his career as a dancer in the early 1970s, performing and creating choreography for companies such as Tanssiteatteri Raatikko, the Helsinki City Theatre Dance Company, the Cullberg Ballet, and the Finnish National Ballet. Alongside his career as a performer, he created nearly fifty choreographic works. In 2000, his piece Asetelma neljälle tanssijalle was awarded a special prize at the Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis in France. A dance group, Tommi Kitti & Co., formed around the original cast of this work, and remained active until 2010.
Tommi Kitti has been awarded Finland’s most prestigious arts prizes, including the State Prize for Art in 2000, the Pro Finlandia Medal in 2003, and the Dance Achievement of the Year Award (Tanssin Maineteko) in 2011.
