Accessibility Statement

Dance House Helsinki strives to ensure the accessibility of its online services in accordance with the Finnish Act on the Provision of Digital Services (306/2019). This accessibility statement applies to the website tanssintalo.fi.

Accessibility Status

The Tanssintalo.fi website partially complies with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA. Any non-compliance and applicable exceptions are detailed below.

Non-accessible Content

The content listed below is not fully accessible for the following reasons:

Non-compliance with the Act on the Provision of Digital Services (306/2019)

Visual Design

- Insufficient contrast between text and background. (WCAG 1.4.3)
- Inadequate contrast in keyboard focus indicators. (WCAG 1.4.11)
- Not all elements have a visible keyboard focus indicator, or the contrast is not sufficient. (WCAG 2.4.7, 1.4.11)
- Some visual elements do not scale neatly on narrow screens. For example, the "Hide details" button in the cookie notice is almost entirely hidden on a small smartphone screen. (WCAG 1.4.10)

Structure

- Text alternatives for visual elements are incomplete, meaning screen reader users do not receive sufficient information. (WCAG 1.1.1, 2.4.6)
- Incorrect use of heading levels. For example, headings that should be hierarchically related are presented at the same level, and heading levels are used for elements that are not actual headings. (WCAG 1.3.1)
- Visually emphasised interactive elements are not programmatically marked as such. (WCAG 1.3.1)
- English-language text alternatives appear in the Finnish and Swedish versions of the site. (WCAG 2.4.6, 3.1.2)

Navigation

- Some content appears when the pointer or keyboard focus moves to an element, obstructing other content and cannot be dismissed using the Esc key. (WCAG 1.4.13)
- Not all elements are accessible using keyboard navigation only. (WCAG 2.1.1)
- Landmarks are incorrectly marked. For example, the main content area is not identified on the “Programme” page, and navigation landmarks are inconsistently applied. (WCAG 1.3.1)
- Not all pages have a unique title. (WCAG 2.4.2)
- The logical order of keyboard focus is inconsistent. (WCAG 2.4.3)

Animations

- The website contains animated content (e.g. the promotional video on the homepage) that starts automatically on page load and cannot be paused. (WCAG 2.2.2)

Form Elements

- The venue hire request form lacks autocomplete attributes. (WCAG 1.3.5)
- Required fields are not marked in the newsletter subscription form. (WCAG 3.3.2)
- Error messages are inadequate. They are not automatically read by screen readers, and some are in English regardless of the page language. (WCAG 3.1.2, 4.1.3)
- Checkbox states (e.g. Erkko Hall, Pannu Hall) are not communicated to screen readers. (WCAG 1.3.1)

Element-specific Observations

- The card elements on the “Programme” page have shortcomings for screen reader users. (WCAG 1.3.1, 2.4.6)
- Tabs on the “Read, Watch, Listen” page are implemented as buttons, so screen readers do not recognise them as tabs. The selected tab is also not programmatically indicated. (WCAG 1.3.1, 4.1.2)

Mobile Interface

- There are accessibility issues in mobile use. For example, the main menu cannot be accessed with a screen reader. (WCAG 4.1.2)

PDF Files

- Several accessibility issues exist in PDF documents. (WCAG 1.1.1, 1.3.1, 1.3.2, 1.4.3, 2.4.2, 2.4.5, 3.1.1, 3.1.2)

Disproportionate Burden

Audio and Video

Dance House Helsinki offers videos where not all content is conveyed through the audio track alone. (WCAG 1.2.3, 1.2.5)

The website contains links to podcasts, but no essential text alternatives are available for users with hearing impairments. (WCAG 1.2.1)

We aim to ensure the accessibility of future audio and video publications. However, due to limited resources, content published before 11 October 2024 will not be retroactively updated.
