Introduction
Dive into the avant-garde world of the early 20th century with a work that redefined the boundaries of art music! Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire (Moonstruck Pierrot), composed in 1912, has become a cult classic. This melodrama transports the listener into a dreamlike state where love, madness, and death intertwine in hauntingly beautiful ways.
The charismatic Maria Ylipää takes center stage, her phenomenal interpretation and distinctive voice merging seamlessly with Carl Knif’s captivating direction. Schoenberg’s use of Sprechstimme, a vocal style that lies between speaking and singing, adds a fascinating strangeness and depth to Pierrot’s tale. A richly nuanced chamber ensemble brings new brilliance to this work based on the poems of Albert Giraud.
Pierrot, kuuhullu is a guest performance at the TOIVOLA Festival.
