Introduction
The Franco-British concert pianist Orlando Bass will perform Isaac Albéniz's masterpiece Iberia, played on a rare J.L. Duysen grand piano from 1905, specially restored for this concert. Albéniz, who passed away in 1909 at the age of only 48, composed this impressionist magnum opus between 1905 and 1909. His compositions from the final decade of his life are deeply rooted in Andalusian musical traditions and showcase influences of improvisation in their musical language.
Born in 1994, Orlando Bass is part of a new generation of classical music creators who combine technical virtuosity with improvisation, offering fresh interpretations of classical themes. His 2018 recording Preludios y Fugas para piano solo and the double album Piano Works from 2020, created in collaboration with Olivier Penard, represent the pinnacle of this innovative approach.
The event is part of the Helsinki Flamenco Biennial.
