EDN Atelier: program released

European Dancehouse Network and Tanssin Talo will host a dialogue with European and international colleagues to unpack the diverse potentials and issues concerning creating and presenting dance in different contexts, economies and conditions.

With the arrival of the new venue of 700/220 seats in Helsinki, the team at Tanssin Talo will host a dialogue with European and international colleagues to unpack the diverse potentials and issues concerning creating and presenting dance in different contexts, economies and conditions. After the game changing pandemic, it is time to redesign and rethink how the future of artistic production and presenting can be. The EDN Atelier invites professionals to explore this topic in a two-day online meeting.

The Atelier includes four online sessions, with international guest speakers and artists. Each session is moderated, and there will be opportunities for discussion and exchange. The Atelier also introduces the artists from SPARKS.

WED 8.9.

14-15.30 (Helsinki Time) / 1-2.30 PM (CET). Artistic approach on how to define large.

Perspectives of dramaturgy, artistic collaboration, and the relationship with the audience. The invited speakers are dancer and choreographer Robyn Orlin (SA / GE), choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh (GB) and choreographer and dancer Frédérick Gravel (CA). The discussion will be moderated by Bush Hartshorn (GB).

16-17.30 (Helsinki Time) / 3-4.30 PM (CET). Global outreach; Exchange and collaboration in times of climate change and the pandemic (from an artistic production perspective).

How do we see the future of touring big productions internationally in relation to the production perspective? How can the exchange of dance work globally be sustainable? The invited speakers are Mirna Zagar (Croatia / CA) and curator and artistic director Tang Fu Kuen (TW). The discussion will be moderated by Katarina Lindholm (FI).

THU 9.9.

14-15.30 (Helsinki Time) / 1-2.30 PM (CET). European/Nordic perspective of exchange and collaboration

How to operate sustainably? Case studies and best practices of such projects as Big Pulse, Nordic Dance Net, Perform Europe. The invited speakers are curator, artist and producer Eduardo Bonito (BRA / DE), Elena Polivtseva (IETM, BE) and Managing Director Ari Tenhula (Zodiak, FI). The discussion will be moderated by Marie Proffit (FR / SWE).

16-17.30 (Helsinki Time) / 3-4.30 PM (CET). Technical perspectives on touring dance production.

What does the future of touring dance productions look like? What possibilities exists, what needs to be developed? The invited speakers are Virve Sutinen (Tanz im August) and choreographer and performer Alesandra Seutin (Ecole des Sables, ZW / BE), Emmanuelle de Varax (Chaillot Theatre, FR), Sabrina Chan Li (Shanghai International Dance Centre, CN), Linda de Boer (Nederlands Dans Theatre, NL) and Ellen Kavanagh (Sydney, AU). The discussion will be moderated by Bia Oliveira (Saddler's Wells, GB).

18.00 (Helsinki Time) / 5 PM (CET). Meet the artists from SPARKS.

SPARKS is a new artistic development project to support artists provides key resources for dance makers to support the entire creation process; from research to residency to production. SPARKS Finnish artists are Milla Koistinen, Veli Lehtovaara, Johanna Nuutinen, Elina Pirinen and WAUHAUS. Hosted by Katarina Lindholm.
