Discussion with Amandine Beyer & Marianna Henriksson
16.6. around 21.30, after the performance of Mystery Sonatas / for Rosa. Free admission.
How do baroque music and contemporary dance discuss and enhance each other?
Exploring the relationship between music and movement has always been an interest of Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. In Mystery Sonatas / for Rosa, choreography enters into an alliance with the Mystery Sonatas composed around 1676 by the Baroque composer Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber. Rarely performed as a whole, the work is interpreted by the baroque music ensemble Gli Incogniti. The group of five musicians is led by Amandine Beyer, a French violinist renowned for her expertise in Baroque violin repertoire.
In a discussion with the artist, Ms Beyer explains the role of baroque music in the work and introduces the background to the Mystery Sonatas. She will be joined by Finnish harpsichordist Marianna Henriksson. Henriksson is also known for her versatile work in the dialogue between early music and new dance, especially with choreographer Anna Mustonen. Henriksson and Mustonen's work, which was recognised with the 2018 State Prize for Performing Arts, will continue when Eros premieres at Erkko Hall in October 2022, bringing together five dancers, five singers and eight musicians from the Finnish Baroque Orchestra.
The talk is held in English.
