Dance House Helsinki brings three top groups in European contemporary dance to Finland

NEWS

Rosas, Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch and Lyon Opera Ballet will open the international guest artist series at Dance House Helsinki. Rosas will perform at Helsinki on 15–16 June. Tickets to the June performances are now available.

The international guest artist series for 2022–2023, arranged by Dance House Helsinki, brings the most interesting dance groups from around the world to Finland.

The series kicks off in June with the Rosas group of Belgian choreographer and dance artist Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, and the new production Mystery Sonatas / for Rosa. Tanztheater Wuppertal, founded by the legendary Pina Bausch, brings the Vollmond (Full Moon) production to Dance House in November.

Both of these choreographers belong to the canon of contemporary dance, and they have had a significant impact on the development of the entire art form. The performances give Dance House Helsinki’s audience a chance to see today’s top talent in dance and current productions from the groups’ extensive repertoires. In connection with the performances, there will be other events, including workshops, lectures and artist meetings.

The series is arranged with support from Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation and continues with a visit from Lyon Opera Ballet in spring 2023. Visits for late 2023 will be announced later.

Mystery sonatas / for Rosa combines music and movement

The relationship between music and movement is a central and lasting source of interest to De Keersmaeker. The choreography of Mystery sonatas / for Rosa, which premiered in February 2022, establishes a partnership with the Mystery Sonatas of Baroque composer Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber. The performance of this impressive work of art combines music performed by a five-person baroque orchestra led by Amandine Beyer, dance, and lighting provided by skilled Finnish designer Finnish Minna Tikkanen.
