Digital Worlds Meet Dance

Digital Worlds Meet Dance

Press releases

Tanssin talo brings one of today’s most talked-about dance collectives, the French (LA)HORDE, to Helsinki. Their stage work Age of Content will be presented on the main stage of Erkko Hall from 26–28 May 2026. Three performances are scheduled as part of Tanssin talo’s international guest visit series. Tickets are now on sale.

Emerging from the Paris art underground scene, Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer, and Arthur Harel have turned their trio into a leading force in contemporary art—a phenomenon whose influence extends beyond performance to fashion, film, and music. Since 2019, the collective has led Ballet National de Marseille, transforming it into one of today’s most compelling contemporary dance companies. At Tanssin talo, the collective presents the poetic, intense, and politically charged Age of Content.

The Age of the Digital Body on Stage

(LA)HORDE is known for works that embody post-internet dance: movement born and spread online, reflecting how digital culture shapes the body and performance. Their pieces draw inspiration from fashion, video games, and club culture, bringing the aesthetics of virtual worlds and popular culture to the stage.

The acclaimed Age of Content is a striking demonstration of the collective’s power: a visually stunning work exploring how the digital age transforms our bodies, desires, and ways of connecting with others.

The title is a wordplay, referring both to an age overflowing with content and to the age of sexual consent. But to what extent do we still control our own bodies—our own consent—in a virtual world?

On stage, 18 dancers from Ballet National de Marseille move like avatars in a video game. These avatar-like figures perform dance styles familiar from virtual worlds, including jumpstyle, twerking, vogue, as well as echoes of 1970s postmodern dance. Different influences and aesthetics merge into a futuristic electric dance hybrid.

"Remixing musical theatre, TikTok-era dance and minimalist aesthetics, (La)Horde delivers a thrilling performance." — Les Echos

(LA)HORDE – The Voice of Contemporary Art

Artists Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer, and Arthur Harel founded (LA)HORDE in 2013. Their work is visible across dance, fashion, film, and theatre as a voice of contemporary art—a role underscored when pop icon Madonna invited the collective to serve as artistic directors for part of her Celebration tour.

Through films, performances, and choreographic works, (LA)HORDE examines the political dimensions of dance and maps out various forms of choreographic rebellion, ranging from raves to traditional and social media dance worlds. Their research into new ways of presenting and circulating dance and the body in the age of the internet has led them to the concept of “post-internet dance.” For (LA)HORDE, dance is simultaneously a sensitive and political space, where there is both permission and responsibility to address societal issues—racism, sexuality, and power.

The performances are part of Tanssin talo’s series of international guest presentations, made possible with the support of the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation, which brings some of the world’s most exciting dance groups and artists to Finland.
