Introduction

Dance House Helsinki and Amos Rex invite you to Summer Dances! Experience the atmosphere of traditional Finnish social dancing in the urban setting of Lasipalatsi Square.

The event brings Finnish dance traditions and the unique culture of social dance pavilions into the heart of the city. During guided dance sessions, participants will be introduced to Finnish traditional social dances such as the waltz, tango, jenkka and humppa in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Expect live music, a strong sense of community and the joy of dancing together.

Summer Dances continues the popular series of social dance events previously held at Dance House Helsinki and brings the joy of dancing into the city centre.

Dancers of all backgrounds are welcome, as are dance pairs of all kinds. Bring a friend or come on your own and find a dance partner on site – and enjoy a summer evening of music and dancing in a central Helsinki location. The teaching will be adapted to participants’ skill levels, making the event suitable for both beginners and experienced dancers.

Dance instruction will be provided by professional teachers from Tanssiteatteri Tsuumi, while the music will be performed by an ensemble of students from the Pop & Jazz Conservatory.

The dances will take place on the Dansbana at Amos Rex. Dansbana! Amos Rex is a public installation and an invitation to dance. It is a free and open dance floor for everyone, created by three Swedish architects: Anna Fridolin, Anna Pang and Teres Selberg.
