Introduction
During the Night of the Arts, Helsinki Festival and Dance House Helsinki presents once again a series of free dance film screenings.
Sydney Dance Company’s Dance Locale by film maker Pedro Greig is a visually stunning series of five short films, produced by Australia’s leading contemporary dance company during the COVID lockdown. Directed by Pedro Greig and choreographed by the company’s artistic director Rafael Bonachela, the series celebrates the beauty and diversity of Greater Sydney and New South Wales’ public spaces through dance.
Impermanence / Disintegration is a thought-provoking dance film by Pedro Greig that celebrates the creative process behind Sydney Dance Company’s stage work Impermanence. The film was made in collaboration with the Australian String Quartet, Sydney Dance Company and the composer Bryce Dessner.
The screening also features selections from CAN DANCE, a short film collection by the contemporary music ensemble Bang on a Can All-Stars. In these works, the iconic New York-based group’s music merges seamlessly with contemporary dance and film. Internationally renowned choreographers created the short films based on music composed specifically for the ensemble.
