NEWS

In summer 2023, Dance House Helsinki is bringing the praised flamenco artist Rocío Molina and one of the most valued ballet companies in Europe, the Lyon Opera Ballet, to Finland. Rocío Molina will perform in the Erkko Hall on 29 and 30 March 2023 and the Lyon Opera Ballet between 30 May and 1 June 2023.

The international guest artist series, arranged during the opening years 2022–2023 of Dance House Helsinki, brings the most interesting dance groups and artists from around the world to Finland.

“The guest artist series strengthens Dance House Helsinki’s profile as an international stage, brings top performances that have never been seen before in Finland and showcases the diversity of dance art,” says Dance House Helsinki’s Programme Manager Mikael Aaltonen.

Tickets for the performances will go on sale in early 2023.

Praised reformer of flamenco charms with a soulful interpretation

Spanish flamenco dancer Rocío Molina is an international star who breaks down barriers between artforms with respect for the traditional essence of flamenco, while incorporating avantgarde aspects. Molina, who is loved by both audiences and critics, was rewarded with the Silver Lion award in the 2022 Venice Biennale in the spring.

Dance House Helsinki will be the stage for Molina’s recent production Al Fondo Riela (Lo otro el Uno), in which he is accompanied by the two virtuoso guitarists Eduardo Trassierra and Yerai Cortés.

Rare visit from a French top group specialised in contemporary dance and ballet

Lyon Opera Ballet, a company particularly well-known for its contemporary dance and ballet performances, will come to Finland at a topical time in the first term of its new Artistic Director Julie Guibert.

A night of choreography with productions by, for example, William Forsythe, which provides the dancers with an opportunity to display their amazing virtuosity will be presented at Dance House Helsinki. Forsythe
was one of the most important choreographers in the late 20th century who reformed dance art and ballet in particular, and his productions have become an essential part of the repertoire of ballet companies all
around the world.

the Belgian company Rosas and the legendary Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, which both attracted large audiences. Guest artists for the remainder of 2023 will be announced later.
