Introduction
Tsuumi Dance Theatre and friends bring favourite performances from past years to the stage, while creating new connections with the present. These evenings, designed for lovers of accessible dance, music, and theatre, invite the audience to enjoy, be charmed, and delight in the performances together.
In the shared evenings of Tsuumi Dance Theatre and friends, audiences can look forward to a lively atmosphere, surprising encounters, and the joy of friendship. Each evening features the return of Tsuumi Dance Theatre’s Kake – Tiellä tähtiin, alongside an uplifting guest performance. On Wednesday 19 November 2025, the evening begins with Greta Productions' Vielä Uudempi Kipparikvartetti.
Greta Productions: Vielä Uudempi Kipparikvartetti
The Kipparikvartetti was a hugely popular Finnish vocal group of the 1950s, formed by schlager stars Kauko Käyhkö, Auvo Nuotio, Olavi Virta and Teijo Joutsela. Greta Productions' production Uusi Kipparikvartetti (premiere 4 October 2019 at the Savoy Theatre) was based on the repertoire of this legendary male quartet. A dramatised concert filled with brilliant music and comic numbers, it told the story of a new set of “Kipparis” following in the footsteps of their iconic predecessors. This autumn, the Uusi Kipparikvartetti continues its journey!
Petri Bäckström, Jouni Bäckström, Roope Pelo and Riku Pelo form Greta Productions' Vielä Uudempi Kipparikvartetti, stepping onto the Pannu Hall stage on 19 November, promising smiles and soaring spirits. The concert combines original hits of the Kipparikvartetti with music specially arranged for the new quartet. Conceptualised by Jouni Bäckström, Vielä Uudempi Kipparikvartetti is a play, a concert, a band, and much more.
The idea of reviving the Kipparikvartetti has long been a dream of opera singer Petri Bäckström. Like the original quartet, both brother pairs in the group bring wide-ranging experience from across the fields of music and performing arts. The members have decades of expertise in classical and popular music, as well as comedy, choral conducting, arranging, composing, acting and dancing. All these talents come together in the dramatised concert Vielä Uudempi Kipparikvartetti, where the stories of the quartet’s founding members merge with the present day and the personal experiences of the new ensemble.
Tsuumi Dance Theatre: Kake – Tiellä tähtiin
Kake – Tiellä tähtiin premiered at the Savoy Theatre ten years ago, winning both audience and critical acclaim. Choreographed by Matti Paloniemi, the piece tells the story of a band called Kake, intoxicated by Finnish schlager music. The band dreams big, but inner tensions, differing ambitions, and unfulfilled hopes complicate their journey together. The original cast featured Reetta-Kaisa Iles, Tuomas Juntunen, Salla Korja, Jarno Tastula and Janne Teivainen. Now the work is revived for new audiences and a new era.
The performance is a compelling blend of dance, theatre and music. The musical framework features Finnish schlagers and tangos in fresh arrangements. Energetic, parodic, and yet genuinely moving, the work has all performers dancing, singing, and playing instruments.
