Introduction

Tii-Tii-Tiitiäinen is a family performance written by Simo Heiskanen and based on the poems of Kirsi Kunnas.

On stage, six performers bring to life the beloved characters from Kunnas’ work that have delighted generations — including Tiitiäinen, Haitula, Tättähäärä, Mr. Pii Poo, Siili and Peikko.

Kunnas’ rhymes and absurd humor are transformed into a joyful fairytale world full of surprising twists and turns.

Director’s Note

The poems of Kirsi Kunnas, cherished across generations, have set our team’s imagination in motion and brought us onto the same wavelength. The rhythm of the poems, the richness of imagery, and the nuanced characters have provided fertile ground for playfulness and the joy of discovery. Kunnas’ absurd humor and sharp wordplay pose a challenge for creating scenes, but also offer solutions that follow their own special logic.

Julia’s paintings, projected as video backdrops, create delicate and beautiful landscapes for the scenes. Milla’s brilliant compositions and sound design, with melodies that stay in your head like earworms, carry the performance forward with spirit. The striking costumes, wigs, and props by Karoliina and Nina captivate with their inventiveness and uncompromising execution. Ville’s lighting design and projection work complete the whole.

The skill, passion, and focus that Kaisa, Ilona, Hanna, Jussi, and Kasperi have brought to every rehearsal has been more valuable than gold. Bringing together a performance that draws on such a wide range of expressive means requires everyone’s full commitment.

My heartfelt thanks to the entire wonderful team for this project — full of work, yet never once feeling like labor.

— Simo Heiskanen
