The dance company Off/Balance is a contemporary dance group based in Jyväskylä, reaching thousands of people each year through its performances and educational activities both in Central Finland and nationwide. Founded in 2010 by dance artists Terhi Kuokkanen and Elina Häyrynen, the company’s acclaimed and open-minded repertoire consists of works created both by the founding artists and by invited guest collaborators. Off/Balance does not centre around the artistic vision or style of a single choreographer, which has allowed the company to develop a fresh and surprising repertoire that explores the boundaries between different art forms. Most recently, Off/Balance has presented the In the Waning Light series by choreographer Milla Koistinen (2023–2025) and the large-scale collaboration Hiljaista Iloa (Silent Joy) with the Jyväskylä City Theatre (2024).

Kake – Tiellä tähtiin
Kake – Tiellä tähtiin premiered at Savoy Theatre ten years ago. Matti Paloniemi’s choreography tells the story of a band called Kake, captivated by the world of Finnish popular music. The group’s dreams are big, but internal conflicts, differing ambitions and unfulfilled hopes create tension on their shared journey. The performers are Reetta-Kaisa Iles, Tuomas Juntunen, Salla Korja, Jarno Tastula and Janne Teivainen.
Kake – Tiellä tähtiin is an intriguing blend of dance, theatre and music. The performance features Finnish schlager and tango classics in reinterpreted versions. In this energetic, parodic yet genuinely touching piece, all performers dance, sing and play instruments.
