Filmed 90 days before the world premiere of Age of Content, this documentary follows Arthur, Marine, and Jonathan—the trio of artists behind the collective (LA)HORDE, who lead the Ballet national de Marseille—and the dancers as they prepare their new creation, alongside a revival of their previous piece, Room With a View, at the Vieux-Port. As the city erupts in the riots of summer 2023, current events bring an unexpected resonance to the message of revolt in their works.
Since taking over the direction of the Ballet national de Marseille (BNM) in 2019 and achieving global success with their first piece for the company, (LA)HORDE and their dancers have established themselves as the new faces of contemporary French dance. Their queer and rebellious message, combined with a polished aesthetic, continues to fill venues year after year. As they begin their second term leading the BNM, the three artists must juggle the preparation of their next major work, Age of Content, with an exceptional revival of Room With a View at Marseille’s Vieux-Port.
(LA)HORDE, Révolte à Marseille follows them through the creation process, as they put their reputation on the line, while current events catch up with their earlier work and Marseille is shaken by the riots of summer 2023—giving their message an unexpected echo and lending their performance the air of a true insurrection.
